NU Black Faculty & Staff Association (BFSA)

Northeastern Black Faculty and Staff Association (BFSA) is a faculty and staff affinity group.

The Northeastern Black Faculty and Staff Association (BFSA) is longest standing affinity group on campus. The BFSA is a collective designed to support, engage, encourage, and inspire the interests and aspirations of for people of African descent at all levels of Northeastern University. The NU BFSA, established in the 1980s, is a professional organization that advocates for the advancement of people of color on campus. We encourage all areas of the Northeastern community to share the availability of this resource with interested colleagues.

Objectives

The by-laws state BFSA is organized and committed to:

  • Exerting influence and encouraging participation of the black community at northeastern university, both in terms of black concerns and the total environment of the university;
  • Encouraging and supporting the efforts of upward mobility of black faculty and staff at all levels of the university;
  • Improving the visibility of· the black community by supporting the enrollment and retention of black students and the employment of more black faculty and staff (both administrative and clerical);
  • Urging the university to provide equal educational and career opportunities for professional growth and upward mobility for all black members of the university community, especially clerical and service employees;
  • Serving as a resource bureau of concerned black people for northeastern university and the black community;
  • Providing both leadership and supportive service on the administrative and academic levels to facilitate the delivery of efficient and effective service to all elements of the university.
